Custom Mother of the Bride DressesTo my readers new and old,

I have been “out of the loop” with blogging and sharing stories about the fashion world particularly in mother of the bride dresses and such. It was such a busy year for us despite the economic recession. I believe that there are lots of women out there who have a not-so-great time looking for their special dress. They come to my webstore www.audreysmotherofthebride.com for low prices and extensive selections. And they find them. We thank you, our customers, for making 2010 a great year for us.

Christmas is in 9 days and not one mother is worrying about her dress at this time. But once the “fa-la-la-la-la-ing” is over and done with, the bride’s wedding looms very, very near. The designers and manufacturers will then introduce their new styles for Spring 2011. The new designs now are trendier and more “hip” for the mother of the bride. However, not all mothers want to wear strapless bustier top dresses with bolero jackets.

Our store is different and we are different. We listen to what the real mothers want. The mothers who are not a size 4 or 6 and who have fitting issues with their dresses. Mothers want to look tastefully elegant without sacrificing their integrity.

We provide brands now that will customize the style for you without changing the original pattern too much, of course. These custom mother of the bride dresses are offered from sizes 2 to 38. Which physical store out there can do this for you, I wonder?

Best of all, prices are very reasonable and waiting time is not too long–about four weeks. Enjoy your holidays, your family and friends, and the food, fun, and laughter that goes with it. Looking forward to seeing you all visit our store come 2011! Peace, and God Bless!

There are news and more news of the economic crisis bombarding us from all angles.  Should you as the mother of the bride or groom cut corners and save money by pulling out something to wear from your current wardrobel?  After all, don’t most ladies have at least one special occasion dress to wear which was already once or twice at some other formal occasion?

I know what you are thinking….”what if the invited guest has already seen me in this outfit?”  Oh dear, the dilemma we ladies face and the embarrassment of it all!

I have good news for you.  I am sure you have already checked out the department store racks combing for the sales and clearance items.  First of all, determine the price range you want to allecate to the mother of the bride dress.  Then you will not go above and beyond your means and have a guilty complex later.

Here are some quick and easy tips for shopping for affordable mother of the bride apparel.

1.  Of course, the sales and clearance racks.  No brainer.

2.  Bridesmaid dresses–yes, bridesmaid dresses and you have read this correctly.  The styles are fashionably revealing or fashionably modest.  You may want to go for the latter and use a nice shawl or wrap.  Bridesmaid dresses come in a choice of colors and shopping this way may be much easier for you.

3.  Clearance items from online bridal stores. Most items are marked to clear at their cost price as they really do want to move it out quickly.  Web stores do not have the foot traffic that brick-and-mortar stores have.  Therefore, the huge markdown for something that mostly has been tried on (not worn) only once, or not at all.

4.  Simply shop online bridal websites.  Their prices are not marked up twice or triple the cost price of the dress.  Online shopping is the way now and more of the future as shoppers get more savvy and computer literate.  Prices are cheaper and time is saved browsing online in your jammies.

5.  There are several websites selling low priced or discount mother of the bride clothing.  There are high end mother of the bride apparel that compete with the prices of the brides’ wedding gowns.  You see these in the specialty bridal boutiques and department stores.  However, stores like AudreysMotheroftheBride.com   http://www.audreysmotherofthebride.com/site/906987/page/1034036  (click this link) offer dresses that range from $100 to mostly $200, and up to $300 max.  Our selections are huge, prices very reasonable, and someone can help size you if you are in doubt.  Also, the most wonderful thing is that we have the most number of plus size mother of the bride dresses around.

6.  Dive into your closet, pull out that dress that was worn just once or twice, and add a shawl, jacket, something creative to it to get a brand new look.  Your seamstress may be able to give you suggestions as she will probably have to make something for you to accessorize your outfit.

There you go, ideas that will save you money and make you feel special for the wedding day.  You need to shine as well being the mother of the bride, and you so deserve it.

Mother of the Bride Dress Tips

Your daughter or son is getting married and you need a dress for the upcoming wedding.  It is their wedding after all and there are so much preparation ahead to make it all seamless.  However, do you know that the toughest thing for the mother is actually finding herself a mother of the bride or groom dress?

The typical mother is in her late fourties to sixties and nature has not been kind to her figure over the years.  It is definitely easier to fit a young bride-to- be in her twenties and a size 6  or 8, then the mother of the bride who is more than likely a plus size.

No worries, here are some tips before you go shopping for that mother of the bride dress!

1.   Know the colors of the wedding and decide on what colors will blend in with those colors.  Through your experience, you will know what colors become you and be confident enough to say “no” to your daughter if she insists that you wear certain colors that make you feel unattractive.

2.  Ensure that you communicate your color decision with the mother of the groom.  Oftentimes, the mother of the groom live miles and cities away and she is left in the dark as to what you will be wearing.   Foster a good relationship with her by communicating what color or even what kind of dress you will be wearing to the wedding.

3.  Shop early!  Again, shop early!  This cannot be stressed enough.   Your gown may have to be special ordered  (8-12 weeks lead time) and when you finally get it in your hands, will more than likely need alterations to make it perfect for your body type.

4.  Be aware of your body type and what looks good in a catalog or mannequin will not look good on you.  Mothers love dresses that have jackets and long sleeves.  You can wear a spaghetti strap dress as well but if you are not too proud of your arms or shoulders, opt for a nice shawl or a crochet jacket for some coverage.

5.  Be realistic that you are shopping for a tailored, structured gown with beads, trimming, and all the accents.  A special occasion gown is often not “stretchy” and loosely fitted.  It will need alterations to fit you properly.  Even a model or actress on the red carpet has her dress fitted for her for that special event.

6.  Body shapers, girdles and foundations are made for a reason.  Otherwise they will not be hotsellers in the lingerie department.  Every dress looks immediately better with some form of body shaper underneath it  to hold all the folds and bulges in place.  You will look and feel better after investing in and wearing one of these foundations.

7.  Jewelry, purses, shoes, earrings, and even dress watches, all add lovely touches to the mother of the bride outfit you will be wearing.  Just go easy on these accessories.  If  your dress has lots of ornate beading and glitter, wear simple jewelry like a pearl necklace.  Or Or you could forgo a necklace with some bold earrings.  Less is always more.

8.  Be aware that social occasion gowns are typically 58 to 60 inches long, if they are meant to be floor length.  Petite gowns are around 54 inches long.  Gowns are cut in these standard lengths and so if you are very tall or short, do be wise and shop early for your gown.  It will either need shortening if you are short or special ordered for you with extra length if you are a tall person.

Every new season brings in different styles and in exciting colors to the mother of the bride dresses. This fall and winter season, the special occasion dress manufacturers will be introducing their fall/winter lines from July to October. Fall is not traditionally the bridal season but there are still quite a few weddings to be held between late August all the way through December.

It is actually a trying time for mothers of the bride and groom alike as spring mother of the bride gowns are in abundance in the stores but quite a few manufacturers do introduce their social occasion dresses for the spring and then again for the fall.

Mother of the bride and groom gowns for fall/winter 2008 will feature rich fabrics with new fangled names like hi-twist crepe, vintage chiffon, shantung, fortuni slinky, and hammered shimmer. All of these are polyester blends with somewhat high resistance to wrinkles and crinkles. They surely feel good to the touch and make the mother of the bride and groom look absolutely awesome wearing them despite a moderate price.

This fall season, evening wear manufacturers are introducing fabulous and popular colors of dark chocolate, plum, sapphire, jade, mocha, and midnight blue. The usual basic colors of champagne, navy, pink, silver, purple, are always popular. Although the dark pinks or fuchsia, of course, make way for the lighter tones for fall. Black is now increasingly popular and no longer “taboo” or bad luck for weddings. It is the color of sophistication and wealth (dare I say good taste as well?) and is the main color of many “black and white” weddings. As with these specialty weddings, the color ivory (like black), is also no longer shunned by even the mother of the bride. It is definitely a free-for-all these modern times, if everyone is happy, including the bride.

Being in the wedding business and specializing on mother of the bride or mother of the groom dresses, I have seen so many styles offered from season to season, year to year. No longer is the mother of the bride or groom satisfied with a boxy, frumpy style and with a matching jacket. This part of the 21st century, the styles have gone increasingly youthful, design and detail conscious and yes, budget conscious as well as the dollar does not stretch that far any longer.

Popular designers for moderately priced mother of the bride and groom apparel are Karen Miller, Cachet, Ursula, Scala, Alex Evenings, Misty Lane, and DJ Collection. Their styles are well-made, affordable and most of all youthful looking. No more dowdy, unattractive mother of the bride outfits for you. All of these are sold online at AudreysMotheroftheBride.com. Our specialty are hard-to-find plus size and full figure dresses. Online bridal stores like ours only offer the current season’s styles in with varying designs and with affordable prices. You can shop comfortably from your home without walking the mall and fighting traffic. This leads to a less stressed mom of bride.

1.  SHOP SALES RACKS.  This is a no-brainer.  Retail stores will discount up to 70% of the original price of the mother of the bride dress, depending on how desperately they want to clear the racks of the current season’s clothing to make way for the new season.  Spring/summer lines start showing up on the racks from January through April, while fall/winter dresses are introduced between June and September.  Therefore, you will get bargains around these times as well for the last season’s mother of the bride apparel.

2.  SHOP EARLY.  The mother of the bride should start shopping for her mother of the bride outfit as soon as she knows the colors of the wedding.  All too often she takes care of all the details that go into the wedding, while forgetting her own needs.  She should spend this time with the bride going over styles, fabrics, accents, accessories, etc.  Late shopping only brings on more stress and possibly more money spent on things that were purchased in haste and then returned with “buyer’s remorse”.  Quite a few bridal shops do not take back returns or offer refunds once the mother of the bride walks out of the store with her dress.

3.  SHOP ONLINE STORES.  There are tons of reputable and traditional bridal boutiques out there that have an online store on the immense “world wide web” nowadays.  The costs of running and upkeeping a brick-and-mortar store are escalating and definitely cut into profits.  Any savvy shop owner knows full well that they will have to own a “web store” to fully maximize their sales and therefore, profits.  Check their Better Business Bureau record or see if the site has a BBB online reliability logo, if you are still not comfortable shopping online.  Once you start using your fingers to do the shopping, you will never stop!

4.  SHOP BRIDESMAID DRESSES.  The “youthful” mother of the bride can opt for a bridesmaid dress which are normally priced less expensively than a mother of the bride gown.  Seek the tailoring expertise of a bridal dress seamstress to add on beads, sequins, and other exotic trimmings to create a uniquely appealing look.

5. SEARCH FOR “DISCOUNT” DRESSES ONLINE.  The mother of the bride can open up more options for herself if she is computer literate and able to do a search using the keywords “discount” or “cheap”.   Example, search for “discount mother of the bride dresses”.  These words can conjure up an image of herself in a cheesy, polyester dress but you will be surprised what will show up online that are not quite cheesy despite being made of polyester.  By the way, there are 40 blends of polyester and almost all synthetic fabrics for special occasion wear are made of some type of polyester.

6.  SHOP REGULAR EVENING WEAR.  Add on a shawl or jacket or buy fabric to make a unique, one-of-a-kind jacket to cover the shoulders and arms for modesty or for providing warmth.

7.  WEAR A TEALENGTH OR COCKTAIL DRESS.  These are priced less than the floor-length gowns and are more versatile, as you can surely wear them again at another special occasion.

Plus Size Mother of the Bride DressesIt could be a known fact that more than 66% of women in the USA today wear a size 12 or larger. It is terribly frustrating to have an idea of what you would like to wear to that office or holiday function, or any special occasion for the matter, and not be able to find the dress that you truly want in the local stores or boutiques. When you do set your eyes on that special dress, you cannot find your size as all the dresses are either a size 6, 8, or 10 and you are definitely NOT one of those.

Well, have you ever thought about the ease and convenience of online shopping? Certainly, you have bought gift baskets or a set of dishes on the internet but a formal occasion dress? That must be truly beyond your comprehension and a new frontier for you but stress no longer, as you can successfully purchase a plus size special occasion dress or formal gown online.

These are the rules:

1. Have an idea about fabrics, their textures, and quality. Every good clothing website will state the type of fabric used on the description summary of the dress. Special occasion dresses are usually made of synthetic fabrics nowadays, due to lower costs and their ability to be wrinkle-free. Visit stores and boutiques in your area and very soon, you will be a fabric expert!

2. Also visit physical stores to see what colors and styles fit your shape and figure and have an idea what you would like or not like on you. Are the styles on the racks too dowdy or are they just plain revealing? Are the colors too loud and bold or are they just plain boring? You will choose the style and color basing on what is socially acceptable for that special event and what will look great on you.

3. Basing on previous shopping experiences and yes, mistakes of the past, you will also have a clear idea of what is becoming on you and to you.

4. Buy or borrow a tape measure (the vinyl or cloth type), if you do not have one already. This is the best tool to obtain your body measurements accurately. Measure over your undergarments, your chest, waist, and hips. Place the tape measure snugly and firmly over your body and not too tightly. Write these numbers down in inches.

5. Now for the best shopping online experience ever, ensure that you select a dress size basing on these body measurements of yours. Remember that every manufacturer size their dresses differently, especially special occasion dresses. There is no standard American size chart for women’s clothing. What is normally a size 16 to you, is probably not the same when it comes to formal wear.

6. When selecting a size, please choose the size that corresponds to your widest body part, if your body measurements are not ideally proportionate. Social occasion dresses are not everyday clothing and are highly tailored and constructed. You may have to follow the rule—“easier to take it in, than to let it out”.

7. Visit the various online boutiques out there. If you do not have a website name in mind, do a “search” in Yahoo!, Google, MSN, or AOL for “special occasion dresses”, “formal dresses”, or “evening gowns”, to give you a few examples. All the specialty stores selling these dresses will be in the search results. It is now up to you to visit them and see what they have to offer. Online stores usually have great prices and selections.

8. Remember to allow ample time between the time you shop and the special event because oftentimes, plus size social occasion dresses are special ordered and require a waiting period.

9. If you follow the above rules, your online shopping experience for your plus size formal occasion dress, will be a pleasant one and you will definitely do it again the next time around. Happy Shopping!!
